Today we are going to make a spoon. It’s the first tool we interact with as humans, and back in the day, you would have had your spoon that you would always eat with. It’s a great exercise in understanding the fundamentals of carving and to understand wood as a material, but also because it’s your spoon, it’s up to you to experiment with shape, size, proportion and colour to make it your own.

I’m Benny and I am a sculpture and furniture maker in London who uses reclaimed and “zero-value” materials to create functional and beautiful objects. It’s so important to consider what we are buying and how it’s produced. My day to day involves a lot of time in my very dusty workshop and I am always on the scavenge for material that is being thrown out, burned or sent to the chipper.
