Handling Metal

Tutors:
ORE projects

During this After School Club, students looked at processing found objects that might be found in garage spaces and transforming them into metal handles. Over four sessions, Ore Projects led research, design and prototyping of the door handles and hooks that can now be used within our STORE STORE BUILD project.

Processes included impression making and mould making using clay, alginate, plaster, jesmonite and cuttlebone. The handles were formed using molten pewter, and were further processed by filing and cutting by hand and using Dremels, and finally drilling fixings in place.

The end result shows handles that represent a collage of found objects and a reimagining of what the garage spaces could be.

This project was supported by the Ragdoll Foundation.
