Join us for a Glass workshop with artist and researcher Dr Shelley James to experiment with this incredibly strong and beautiful material. In this fast-moving workshop you will learn how to make jewellery using a microwave kiln, design your own tumbler using etching paste and stencils and create colourful night lights and coasters using silvered and clear glass, UV-cured paints and simple engraving tools.
Shelley trained in textiles and printmaking and has a PhD in glass from the Royal College of Art. She is Associate Artist in the Physics Department at King’s College, London and at the Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of London. She teaches at the RCA, the Institute of Making and at UWE in Bristol. Shelley’s research-led practice is inspired by conversations with scientists and is held in public and private collections in the UK, France, China and the USA.
The workshop works well for up to 10 participants, larger groups can also be accommodated. We can also arrange food and drinks.
